Naming and delivery ceremony for SNo.723/ 600,000cft type refrigerated cargo carrier,”KORU” was held at our Toyosu Works.

We finally held a naming and delivery ceremony for our building hull number S-723, a 600,000 cubic feet refrigerated cargo ship at our Toyosu Works South Pier on August 1, 2025. Due to the tsunami alert issued following the earthquake that occurred off the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia on July 30, we were forced to reschedule the naming delivery ceremony originally planned for July 31, as well as evacuate the shipowner’s superintendents and crew members, and shift the urgently vessel sail out to the Pacific Ocean to avoid the tsunami. However, after the tsunami alert, we were able to safely deliver the vessel to the shipowner, and we are all relieved.

This S-723 is ordered by a major domestic reefer carrier owner and named “KURU” by a charterer in New Zealand and sail out from Hachinohe for the first port, Yokohama. “KORU” is a Maori word in New Zealand meaning “fern shoot,” symbolizing “new life” and “development.” The vessel will be engaged in the maritime transport of premium kiwifruit from New Zealand to East Asia.

“KORU” is the first ship of 600,000cft type refrigerated cargo carrier project and is equipped with the latest Controlled Atmosphere(CA) technology in the cargo holds, new SOx scrubber system for environmental friendliness, and is also satisfied with IMO NOx Tier-III regulations. In addition, the vessel can onboard 154 of 40 feet reefer containers on the deck. Also, 40t and 8t hydraulic deck cranes can handle speedy loading of containers and cargo pallets at the various ports in New Zealand and East Asia.

We, shipyard hopes “KORU” will be a treasured vessel for all concerned parties under the current positive global fruits logistics between New Zealand and East Asia. We will keep continue to make efforts to provide high-quality merchant vessels for owners and global operators.
