Ship No.736, 40,000-ton deadweight type stainless chemical tanker naming and delivery ceremony was held at South Pier, Toyosu Works on July 29, 2026.

The 40,000-ton deadweight chemical tanker, SNo.736, ordered by the trading house, has been named “BOW TANAKA” by the charterer and sailed out to Ulsan, South Korea for bunkering. After that, she will cross the Pacific Ocean and load the chemical cargo at Houston TX. The ship name, “TANAKA,” is derived from Shosuke Tanaka, the Japanese merchant who crossed the Pacific Ocean and reached for America during Edo period in 1610. At the time, General-Tokugawa Ieyasu was seeking to establish trade with Nueva España (present-day Mexico) and appointed Shosuke Tanaka to serve as the negotiator. According to records, Tanaka hoped Japan and Nueva España would develop the relationship based on mutual respect and free trade between Spanish merchants and the Japanese.

The charterers traveled long way from Norway and world famous chemical tanker key figure, Mr. Bernt Daniel Odfjell attended the ceremony with his wife this time. The shipowner joined us from Singapore also, we were honored to welcome guests from Ehime and Tokyo.

The vessel “BOW TANAKA” is the second ship in the 40,000-ton deadweight super eco-chemical tanker project. The cargo tank feature duplex stainless steel and 28 segregations configuration incorporating the center cofferdam. Also, the vessel is installed the new hull line without the bulbous bow, the gate rudder system, aerodynamic superstructure, and four vent foils serve as wind-assisted devices on the deck. Finally, the vessel achieved Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) standard of 50% level as the latest designed eco-chemical tanker.

We sincerely hope this eco-chemical tanker “BOW TANAKA” will become the treasure ship for the shipowner and all attendees.
